Dudley Benson, psychotherapist in Melbourne

Life can be tough…

… and many people find therapy to be a powerful experience in rebuilding, and bringing about meaningful change. I'm a psychodynamic psychotherapist: this means I work in understanding how you move through the world, with emphasis on patterns and behaviours that happen outside of your awareness. If you're experiencing any of the following challenges, we can chat about therapy together:

  • anxiety or mood imbalance

  • childhood trauma

  • addiction & substance misuse & addiction

  • loneliness & isolation

  • conflicts with sexuality

  • gender dysphoria

  • diagnosed disorders such as BPD & dissociation

  • depression

  • self-harm & suicidal ideation

  • relationship issues

Is therapy right for you?

My practice is based on the Conversational Model: a psychoanalysis-informed treatment with evidential success in treating a range of issues. It's a warm, relaxed but focused relational therapy in which we process your experience together, and give you the insights you need to live well.

  • sessions are in-person, weekly, for 50 minutes

  • our sessions take place in Carlton, Melbourne

  • the setting is private, comfortable and close to public transport

I don't offer a Medicare rebate on the first ten sessions, but my ongoing rate is $140 per session - no matter how many sessions we have - because I believe in keeping therapy accessible.

I’m available for tele-health/video treatment, but don’t believe it is as effective as in-person therapy.
